چکیده

After successful physical maneuvers for BPPV, some patient refers a non-positional dizziness lasting several days. In our review we considered epidemiology of the disorder, proposed pathophysiological mechanisms and therapy. The duration of Residual Dizziness (RD) has been evaluated by different authors in a range varying from 2 days to 3 weeks. Among pathophysiological mechanisms, it has been considered the possibility of the persistence of a small amount of debris in the canal, the possibility that BPPV could be a more complex disorder implying a primitive utricular dysfunction, the coexistence of emotional factors, possible delaying central compensatory mechanisms. Finally, proposed drug therapy for the disorder has been reported, as well as our experience. Different drugs have been reported to be useful for RD, including betahistine and anxiolytics. We found that the combined therapy with cinnarizine and dimenhydrinate may be useful in reducing both the rate of patients with RD and the duration of RD.

Residual Dizziness after Successful Repositioning Maneuver for Idiopathic Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo: A Review

The benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a vestibular disorder cause of vertigo. The BPPV may be corrected mechanically by repositioning maneuvers but even after successful maneuvers, some patients report residual dizziness for a certain period afterward. Early recognition and treatment might decrease the incidence of residual dizziness in patients with BPPV, especially in those patie...

Residual Dizziness after Successful Repositioning Treatment in Patients with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common form of vertigo. Although the repositioning maneuver dramatically improves the vertigo, some patients complain of residual dizziness. We evaluated the incidence and characteristics of persistent dizziness after successful particle repositioning and the clinical factors associated with the residual dizziness. ...

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo in Parkinson's disease.

BACKGROUND Dizziness is a frequent complaint of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), and orthostatic hypotension (OH) is often thought to be the cause. We studied whether benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) could also be an explanation. AIM To assess the prevalence of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo in patients with Parkinson's disease, with and without dizziness. METHODS 30...
